If you are serious about using samplers primarily consider expanding memory as much as you can. Samplers in general are resource hogs, particularly with RAM. If I didn’t have to travel so much I would just build 64gb monster desktop. It’s a bit of a pain, but I’ve had to do this when I’ve done full orchestral scores because 16gb just isn’t enough. Usually with any high resource virtual instrument, once I’m happy with how it sounds I’ll render it down to an audio track, leave the midi in place in case I want to change it later, then set the plugin to “offline” mode (not just bypassed) so it’s using no CPU. Rarely do I use more than 6 sample tank tracks at once because it’s such a resource hog, and I’m working of 16gb of ram. I hate routing multiple things through sample tank - I just don’t like the UI, so I tend to split it up with each track with an individual instance of it. One thing worth sowing is pulling up you performance meter (ctlr+alt+p) and docking that at the side to see how much it’s using. It’s ram hungry AF, which is pretty annoying. I also have a pretty lightweight set-up: Windows laptop with 8gb mem, i7 quad-core 2.8 ghz, 256gb SSD.)Ĩgb of ram might be an issue with SampleTank, especially depending on how many instances you use of it. (Context: I'm definitely not a pro at music production and haven't even gone past my Reaper eval period yet. What are your experiences with Sampletank 4 and Reaper, and how have you been using it efficiently? Other posts on the IK forum argue the opposite: use separate instances on separate tracks to distribute CPU load over multiple cores. TL DR Question: What are some best practices for using Sampletank 4 with Reaper? Some videos suggest using one instance of Sampletank and routing inputs/outputs from other tracks to it. This was particularly bad with the Hot Horn instrument, which keeps crashing Reaper whenever I switch it from crescendo to falls.

Not just playback, but even saving the project would take a good 5-10s. I noticed that when I use the larger samples from the SE version, Reaper would start getting really slow for me. I also had a bunch of IK Multimedia points from buying another product, so I was happy to upgrade for a pretty reasonable price. Hey r/Reaper, I bought Sampletank 4 SE on IK's July 4th sale after trying the free version for a while.
